IELTS key facts and numbers

When will I get my IELTS results?

You won’t have to wait long for your IELTS test results.

If you have taken the IELTS on paper test, you will be able to preview your results after 13 calendar days from the test date. If you have taken the IELTS on computer test, you will be able to preview your results after 3 to 5 calendar days from the test date.

Check your results on the Test Taker Portal. Please note that IELTS we cannot disclose your results by phone or email or send a .pdf copy of your results.

IELTS results remain online for 28 days but should not be used as an official confirmation of your performance.

When will I get a hard-copy of my result?

We will send out a one paper copy of your IELTS test score (the Test Report Form: TRF) by registered post 13 days after your IELTS on paper test date (and 3 to 5 days after your IELTS on computer test date). Please allow at least seven working days for the delivery.

If you asked for your Test report Form to be collected in person in our office, you can do so with a valid proof of identity (the one you took your test with). We will notify you via e-mail once your TRF is ready for collection.

If you want your TRF to be collected by other person, please fill in and sign the Authorisation form (downloadable below) and deliver it to our office. The person collecting your TRF must present the proof of identity indicated in the Authorisation form.

Can I get additional copies of my IELTS results?

You can ask for up to five additional copies of your TRF to be sent free of charge directly to institutions and recognizing organisations (e.g. universities, immigration offices). These can be either sent by post or - if the institution is a member of the online results verification system - shared online. Only if you are applying to IRCC, a second hard-copy of your TRF can be sent free of charge to you.

This service can be requested directly from your Test Taker Portal and is available for 2 years from the test date.

If you have taken an IELTS on paper test before November 2020 please download and fill in the Application for Additional Test Report Form (below) and deliver it to our office by post or scanned by email.

Please note that an additional Test Report Form might take up to 10 days to be processed and we might ask you to cover courier costs (if delivery by regular post is not possible).

If you need more than five additional paper TRFs please download and fill in the Application for Additional Test Report Form (below) and deliver it to our office by post or scanned by email. An administration fee of €20 will be charged to send an Additional TRF to 1 or 2 addresses (payable by card in our office or by bank transfer).

What does my IELTS score mean?

You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, which reflects your proficiency in English.

Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking), as well as an overall band score. You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test.

Find out more about what your score means here.

How long are my IELTS results valid for?

Whether you have taken IELTS on paper or on computer, organisations will usually not accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked. This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR).

You can now request this service directly from your Test Taker Portal. This is available up to 6 weeks after the test date and you can choose one or more test sections to be re-marked and pay online. The fee for this service is €110 per test section and will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test.

Can I re-take my IELTS test?

There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.

Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
